SMILING IN SLOW MOTION (2026)

Screening exhibition
Third Born, CDMX
13, 14 and 18.08, 2026

Smiling in Slow Motion, is a three-day video screening program that approaches what Roy Scranton calls “the end of the world as we know it” as an ongoing condition rather than a single event. This end, does not manifest itself as a sudden incident, but as a slow process towards a dooming atmosphere that we have time to embrace. Amid AI systems escaping the sandbox, engineered cyborg-cockroaches, Silicon Valley techno-messianism, contemporary aesthetics are obsessed with reversing aging, and a world where simulations replace experience, the film program asks: where do we find ourselves now? At what point in the cycle of decay are we?

OFF SCRIPT (2026)

Screening
Third Born, CDMX
June 25, 2026

OFF SCRIPT stands in conversation with the current exhibition En Flujo (In Flux) . Structured as a double feature: THIRD BORN will host its first game night with works by Sami E. Nicolle, followed by a video art screening featuring works by Romeo Gómez López, Eglė Rakauskaitė, and others.

The OFF SCRIPT program focuses on films and videos that inhabit the space between rules and unruliness. Playful, ironic, and political, these works ask what it means to go off script: to interrupt norms, deviate from expected behavior, and open up moments of unpredictability, tension, and potential. Across the program, gestures of estrangement, humour, eeriness, and resistance reveal how moving images can unsettle familiar codes and suggest other ways of relating in the world.

EVER AFTER (2026)

Screening + Performance
Isla Project Space, CDMX
April 16, 2026

The afterhour marks the moment when the party stretches beyond itself—after the peak, when the dancefloor thins but refuses to end, and time begins to blur into an ever after that won’t quite settle. Conceived as an extension of the rave, this screening inhabits that threshold where bodies, sound, and affect linger in a state of heightened yet fragile intensity—seductive and slightly ominous, like a fairytale on the verge of turning.

Featuring: Megaworld, DJ Youtube, Eleonora Luccarini, Anhar Salem, Lorenzo Silvestri, Rustan Söderling

TRACE.AI<3 (2026)

Screening
Third Born, CDMX
December 10, 2026

index404: what marks paper?
trace.ai<3: touch.
index404: and film?
trace.ai<3: light&cha0s

The fourth edition of The ROOF presents trace.ai<3, a film program extending the concerns of Amorce – Paper, Index, Trace into moving images. From material mark-making to photographic imprint, we explore how film and code inherit the logic of the index — not simply showing reality but carrying its touch. Light and exposure remain the shared ground: from Brakhage’s sun-struck frames to livecoding’s real-time marks. In resonance with Hito Steyerl’s notion of the “poor image,” we follow traces that wander, compress, or misbehave technically.

BESO INVERTO (2025)

Screening
Third Born, CDMX
September 23, 2025

In response to Anna de Castro Barbosa’s exhibition “All that you touch, you Change. All that you Change, Changes you.”

You approach a mirror. Closer. Closer still. So close you almost kiss your own reflection.

Desire unfolds—yearning for intimacy, a beloved one, an image beyond. Something lingers on the other side.

There is an unsettling quality to the image. Shadows deceive, yet draw you in.
To kiss the mirror is to kiss only what you see.

So we go beyond—shadows move, light hits the frame—the mirror becomes a screen.
We invert the kiss: our obsession now turns to the films themselves, each unfolding before us.

And we invite you to surrender to the screen for an evening of short films, ephemeral tales, and a first glimpse of Anna de Castro Barbosa’s video work.

with works and videos by/of: Pipilotti Rist, Sarah Lucas, Jan Svankmayer, Rebecca Horn, Luis Bunuel, Mona Hatoum, Bertrand Mandico, Brandon Cronenberg and Anna de Castro Barbosa

WHAT REMAINS: ECHOES OF ABSENSE (2025)

Screening
Third Born, CDMX
July 23, 2025

“Like clockwork, the rains return to Mexico City, and with them, new rhythms of breathing and belonging emerge. This renewal echoes in Continuous Dimensional Thorax, a dual exhibition by Sidony O’Neal and Timothy Yanick Hunter at THIRD BORN, where repetition and recombination create living ecosystems of displacement and knowing.

Against this backdrop, THE ROOF presents What Remains: Echoes of Absence, featuring video works by Crystal Z Campbell (@crystalzcampbell) and Onyeka Igwe (@memoriesofabiglife). Their films explore gaps in the archive and silences in history—not to restore loss, but to reimagine what emerges from absence.

Campbell’s A Meditation on Nature in the Absence of an Eclipse and VIEWFINDER transform the overlooked into urgent images, while Igwe’s Specialised Technique and No Archive Can Restore You make the body an archive, confronting colonial legacies and impossible restorations.

Together, they invite us to dwell in the aftermath and imagine futures where belonging is cultivated beyond division—like the rains renewing the earth.”
